OZTRAIL - a history of innovation

OZTRAIL REVOLUTIONISED CAMPING IN AUSTRALIA

We at OZtrail have been designing and manufacturing family tents for over 11-years. It was always our objective to offer innovative designs using high quality materials and current construction techniques. OZtrail is a family business and we strive to have the OZtrail brand represent value for money for the camping family. Proudly, OZtrail is a prominent brand in camping grounds around Australia.

OZTRAIL INTRODUCED THESE INNOVATIONS TO AUSTRALIAN FAMILY CAMPING:

1995 Geodesic Domes
Lighter, packed up smaller and less expensive than the traditional family tents available at the time.
1997 DuraPlus Poles
Stronger, more flexible & durable than conventional fibreglass poles.
Fire Retardant Fabrics
For added security for your family. Meets US standards CPAI-84 specification.
2000 Ensuite Domes
Made camping a little more civilised.
1996 Double Geodesic Domes
This enabled the tents to be made bigger without compromising stability and strength.
2004 Climate Control Vents
Kept the inside climate cooler.
Durawrap Poles
Lightweight, flexible & strong.
2005 Modular Domes
A tent system that grows with the family.
1997 Increased ventilation
Large square windows.
2006 Ventura Roof Vents
Allow rising, warm air to escape quickly.

INNOVATION TRANSLATES INTO CONVENIENCE AND COMFORT

The combination of the dome shape with new lightweight waterproof fabrics enabled tents to become lighter and pack up smaller. These tents are a significant option to the much heavier, bulkier and more expensive Canvas Tents of the time. To have a lightweight tent that packs up small makes it easy to carry and it won’t take up too much room in your car. Combining two domes under the one fly, allowed us to design much bigger tents without compromising the stability and strength of the tent. We now have polyester dome tents in our range that sleeps up to 14 people.

Most family camping occurs in the summer and ventilation was an issue. Over the years we added bigger square windows, Climate Control Vents at floor level and now we have Ventura Roof Vents to make sure that rising warm air escapes. The rising air creates a Ventura effect within the tent and vast amounts of air escape taking moisture with it that could cause condensation.

With all the tent options available, we thought it’d be a good idea to design a tent that grows with the family. Our Commune Series is a modular tent system. Just keep adding modules in a variety of configurations.
It is these innovations that make camping easier and more comfortable.

THE OZTRAIL NANO FACTOR

The OZtrail NANO Factor is the combination of the following textile and construction elements: -
• 75-Denier yarn for an even, low-profile weave, for the best waterproof coating adherence
• Superior waterproof and water repellent technologies
• High density 190-Thread count for maximum seam holding strength
• Exclusive UVTEX® textile technology
• Double needle sewing
• Factory seam sealed seams
• Our unique PosiBrace System reinforces the entire tent structure

We build our tent flys using the most innovative elements of textile design, coating technology and construction techniques. The basic design criteria for an OZtrail dome tent is for it to be lightweight and compactable without compromising performance and strength. The fly of the tent is the weatherproof barrier. It must be waterproof, withstand winds and bond the structure together. We chose a high-density 190-Thread count fabric because a densely woven fabric offers strong seam holding power. The yarn size of 75-Denier enables us to achieve the desired density. The smooth even finish of the textile allows for the waterproof coating to be most effective. A coarse-woven, heavier Denier fabric will not accept the waterproof coating as easily.

Parachutes are also made from lightweight, high-density fabrics.

We sew the panels of the fly together with a double needle machine and then add seam sealing tape to the inside of the seams, adding even more strength to the system. We then use the fly to brace the tent structure together; we call it our PosiBrace system. Touch Tape is attached to seam sealed floating tabs that are attached to the inside of the fly at the guy line points. When these are attached to the poles they add great strength to the tent.
