Swimming, hiking, cooking and sleeping are often the first things that come to mind when we think of camping. Not to mention those late nights sitting around the campfire, toasting marshmallows and swaying along to a poorly played guitar while singing ‘Kumbaya’. Though these activities are great, sometimes you’re just not feeling it. Whether boredom hit or the weather took a turn for the worse and left you tent-ridden, there’s nothing worse than being stuck in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do.
To avoid getting caught in a similar situation, we’ve come up with a few ways to keep you entertained on your next camping trip.
A great way to get to know your fellow campers a little better is to have everyone participate in a quiz night. Conversation games like Would You Rather and Never Have I Ever always seem to be good for a laugh, but why not step it up a notch and create your very own trivia. Write your own questions throughout the day, then watch your friends and family scratch their brain for the right answers! Take it in turns to write a different quiz everyday so no game is ever the same.
By playing a few team-based games, you're able to stretch the legs and get the heart rate up a bit. Beach volleyball and capture the flag are generally crowd favourites, but if you’re feeling really up for a challenge, why not create your very own camping Olympics or obstacle course!
Card and board games are a no brainer when it comes to providing entertainment while hanging around the campsite. Rain, hail or shine, day and night, they’ll provide endless fun for everyone. Some of our favourites to play include, Cards Against Humanity, Spot it! Camping, What Do You Meme?, Monopoly, Yahtzee, Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza and of course, Charades.
One of the best places for children to embrace their inner creativity is in the great outdoors. Campgrounds are surrounded by hectares of natural craft supplies meaning, you won’t have to pack as much. Just by tying lush foliage around the end of the stick you’ll have yourself a little paint brush! Take some paint and let your kids imaginations run wild. Rocks, feathers, bark, you name it - everything becomes a blank canvas when on the road.
Sometimes, we get so caught up in keeping busy all the time that we actually forget to relax! You’re on holidays, why not find a quiet spot somewhere in the shade to kick back and unwind. A hammock is the perfect excuse to put your feet up with a good book.
